Week 8 | Colossians 3:22-24 | Russell Matthews
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.”― Col. 3:23
“The two words used by God in his command (Gen 2:15) for Adam to work are abad (work) and shamar (take care). Interestingly, these words are also used to mean 'service to God' and 'keeping his commandments', respectively. This implies that we should make no distinction between sacred and secular work.”– R Paul Stevens
Col. 3:22 Bondservants, obey in everything those who are your earthly masters, not by way of eye-service, as people-pleasers, but with sincerity of heart, fearing the Lord. 23 Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 24 knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.
Is there something from today's readings or teaching where you sensed God speaking to you, or us?
If you accept the assertion that we worship God through our work, then how do you connect who you are and what you do on Sundays with who you are and what you do the rest of the week?
How do you help your co-workers and clients to know that your Sunday Worship and Christian faith is connected with your Monday Worship at work? How do they know that that your faith influences and impacts how you work and why you work?
A closing prayer:
May the Lord of heaven and earth deepen our knowledge
that in Jesus Christ heaven has come to earth,
and earth has become the holy ground of God's kingdom work. Amen
