FAQ

(Frequently Asked Questions)

  • Who is Gordon Baptist Church? Gordon Baptist Church is a group of people who live in Sydney and gather in various groups for worship and community connection. We believe that Jesus is the world’s true king who has come to deal with brokenness and set the world right. We worship him as Lord of our lives individually and corporately, and are learning together how to join him in his ongoing work in the world.

  • I’m new here, how can I connect? You are welcome to join us at any of our gatherings. If you’d like to come along to our next New People’s gathering to get to know more about GBC and meet some of the pastors, register your interest and we’ll let you know when our next one is planned.

  • I’m not a Christian, is it ok for me to come? Yes, we would love you to come and be part of any of our gatherings. While these are specifically set aside for worship and equipping followers of Jesus for God’s work in the world, we try to make our times of gathering accessible for anyone to attend, observe, and join in as they feel comfortable. We also run a course called Alpha which you might like to join to find out more about Jesus and the Christian faith. Email us and we'll let you know when the next course will begin.

  • What do GBC gatherings look like? COVID-19 restrictions have prompted us to change the way we gather. We currently have a number of gatherings that fall into three broad groups although each of these gatherings look slightly different to each other too. You’re welcome to come to any of these gatherings and decide where is best for you.

    • a Common Way – these groups meet online and in person, and follow a common order of service, and shared video teaching in English. The teaching aspect is also available on our YouTube Channel and Podcast.

    • All Together – these are all-age and inter-cultural gatherings with a simple structure and teaching in plain English that is concise and interactive.

    • Language Groups – we have multiple groups that meet in languages other than English including Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese.

  • Are there limits to who can attend? Due to COVID-19 restrictions we currently do have limitations on attendance. We can have 100 people on our whole site at 20 Park Avenue with different rooms inside with different limits following the ‘4m2 rule’. Attendance is also limited by health restrictions. You are not able to attend if you have any flu-like symptoms, or are required to self-isolate due to proximity to COVID-19 hotspots.

  • I have children, can they come? Yes, children are a vital part of our community. We do not have separate children’s programs at our Sunday gatherings because we believe all ages worshipping together is most effective in developing life-long disciples. While children are welcome at all our gatherings, our All Together gatherings are specifically planned for all ages to worship together. If you have Youth-aged children, we also have a Youth Group that runs on Friday nights during public school terms from 7-9pm at GBC. We also provide online resources for parents to access on our Families & Parenting page.

  • Why do I have to register to attend? There are current COVID-19 restrictions in place in NSW requiring us to register the attendance of all people who come on our property (in case it is required at a later time for contact tracing). Additionally, there are limitations to the number of people who can be onsite at our 20 Park Ave building at any one time. So in order to avoid turning people away at the door, we are trying to make visible how many places are available at each of our gatherings. See our Gatherings page to register.

  • How do I register to attend a gathering? Register online for the coming Sunday. Registration opens on Monday for the following week. If you have any questions about the registration, email us at info@gordonbaptist.org.au.

  • I can no longer attend, how do I cancel my registration? Simply email us at info@gordonbaptist.org.au letting us know which gathering your were registered for, and names of those who cannot come, and we’ll remove your registration for that week.

  • Do you have groups in languages other than English? Yes, while all our English gatherings are inter-cultural, we also we have groups that meet speaking Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese.

  • What other activities do you run? We have a number of other activities you can find on our Ministries page.

  • What if my question isn't answered here? Email us at info@gordonbaptist.org.au and we'll get back to you.
